The
Maine Library Excellence Award was established to recognize
excellence in Maine's libraries by the Maine Regional
Library Districts, the Maine State Library, and the Maine
Library Association in conjunction with the Friends of Maine
Libraries and the Maine Library Trustee Association. Based
on a similar model established in 2000 by the Connecticut
State Library and the Connecticut Library Association, three
awards are available each year to recognize outstanding
library programs or services. Entries may be submitted for
either a successful ongoing program established at any time,
or for a one-time program conducted during the past three
years (since 2002).
Applications may now be sent
in for the 3rd annual Maine Library Excellence Award. The
MLEA honors one or more public libraries that have provided
outstanding service to their communities. The award is
either for a successful ongoing program or a one-time
program that occurred during the last three years.
Nominations will be judged on service to the community,
creativity and innovation, and leadership in creating model
programs. Application deadline is October 2, 2006.
Informational packets are
being sent to all public libraries. There have been some
changes to the award process this year-- including $500 cash
awards-- so be sure to look into this important award!
