Katahdin Award
The Youth Services Section Interest Group of the Maine Library Association wishes to encourage the reading, writing, illustrating and study of children's literature in Maine; to elevate the status of children's literature in Maine, and to foster pride in our native state.
The Katahdin Award, chosen by the Lupine Committee, is a lifetime achievement award given by the Youth Services Section Interest Group of the Maine Library Association to recognize an outstanding body of work of children's literature in Maine by one author or illustrator. The award may be given annually but may not necessarily be given each year. The award consists of a commemorative set of bookends or a stone carving.
Criteria for Selection
- The Katahdin Award is designed to honor a living author or illustrator residing in Maine who has created a body of work of outstanding merit.
- An author or illustrator will be considered a resident of the state if he or she was born in the state or is currently residing in Maine for all or part of the year.
- Titles to be considered must be appropriate for children who are seventeen years old or younger.
Nominations shall be accepted from librarians, media professionals and other interested persons. Nominations shall be submitted to the chair of the Lupine Committee no later than November 30th.
Members of the library community may nominate a Katahdin contender by contacting any member of the Lupine Committee before their November meeting.
