Letter to MLA
members regarding the 2007 Maine Libraries
Conference
June, 2007
Dear Members,
MLA has made an
important decision that will impact you directly
and we wanted you to be aware of that decision.
We have decided after careful deliberation that
it is time to reevaluate the Maine Libraries
Conference our annual joint conference with the
Maine Association of School Libraries. Because
we want this review to be thorough and inform
our decisions about future continuing education
and professional development activities for MLA
members, we have also decided that it is
necessary to postpone the 2007 Maine Libraries
Conference sessions planned for November of
2007.
We know that many
of you look forward to your time at conference
for networking and improving your library
programs so we are planning a smaller event for
the fall just for MLA members. We hope we can
use some of our time at this event to dialog
with you about your continuing education and
professional development needs and conference
experiences that are important to continue. Our
goal is to have our evaluation complete by the
end of the year so that a new, bigger and better
event can be ready for 2008.
We appreciate
your understanding, support and patience while
we “check under the hood” and hope you’ll
feel comfortable enough to tell us what you need
and want MLA to provide in the way of continuing
education and professional development as we go
forward.
Below you will
find the press release that MLA and MASL will be
releasing to the public regarding this study.
Please contact me
if you have questions, concerns or suggestions.
Thanks,
Nikki Maounis
2006-07 MLA President
