Intellectual Freedom Committee

About The Intellectual Freedom Committee (IFC) bylaws
The IFC is a joint committee between the Maine Library Association and the Maine Association of School Librarians. The IFC supports people who are facing book challenges in libraries and classrooms by writing letters and helping to provide reviews of challenged materials. We also distribute an Intellectual Freedom manual for the State of Maine and choose a recipient for the SIRS (Social Issues Resource Series)/ProQuest Intellectual Freedom Award.
Other projects underway include gathering information for and maintaining a list of challenged books in Maine; distributing a survey; establishing a presence at important conferences and workshops; and developing publicity materials to educate and inform.
There are many opportunities for contributing to this exciting and important work!
