MLA Awards

MLA invites members and friends of the Maine library community to nominate individuals for these awards. All nominations will be reviewed by the Awards and Nominations Committee, with awards presented at the Annual Conference.

We are now accepting nominations for the Outstanding Librarian of the Year and the Outstanding Library Advocate. Please download the corresponding form, collect materials to support the nomination, and submit them to communications@mainelibraries.org by April 29, 2022.

Outstanding Librarian of the Year Award

The Outstanding Librarian of the Year Award was created in 1993 to highlight professional achievement and service to the Maine Library Community. 

Outstanding Library Advocate Award

New in 2022, this award is meant to recognize contributions to Maine Libraries from outside of the library profession.

Journalism Award

Awarded between 2013 and 2021, the Library Journalism Award recognized our invaluable partners in the Maine media by selecting the most outstanding print or broadcast story about libraries in Maine within the last year.

Youth Services Lupine Award 

Since 1989, the Lupine Award has honored a living author or illustrator who is a resident of Maine, or who has created a work whose focus is Maine, as shown through the work’s characterization, plot, or setting.

Youth Services Katahdin Award

Begun in 1999, this lifetime achievement award recognizes an outstanding body of work of children’s literature in Maine.
