Sharing in Maine: a Maine InfoNet Pre-Conference
Please join us on September 30th at the Sunday River Resort in Newry, Maine
A morning keynote will be followed by networking at lunch, and afternoon sessions about libraries and the sharing economy in Maine and a summit on how Maine libraries have been and can continue to work together.
Attend as a stand-alone event, or combine with the MLA Annual Conference!
There are many issues affecting the ability of Maine libraries to effectively share and partner. Some of these issues are thorny and complex: some are simple, but just need to be shared. The afternoon sessions of the pre-conference will function as a summit where libraries of all types from across the state can meet and work through these issues. Maine InfoNet will lead a discussion of some issues that have arisen over the last few years with the goal of reaching understanding and a shared approach for solving some problems that we all encounter. There will be a chance for libraries to provide input on proposed policies and suggested best-practices as well as an opportunity to raise issues of importance to your library that might impact statewide sharing.
Keynote: Miguel Figueroa Director, Center for the Future of Libraries, American Library Association http://www.ala.org/tools/future Our Futures in Sharing Libraries were sharing before sharing was cool, but new peer-to-peer and sharing economy models are changing the ways that people provide and access goods and services. How are these models distinct from traditional modes of library sharing and what might be their next steps in changing user expectations? This session will look at sharing economy innovators and consider the implications for libraries. Using some of these new insights, we’ll work together to envision new sharing transactions for Maine’s library user of the future. Through this process of identifying new signals of change and working together to develop positive visions for the future, we can take the first steps toward building the library of the future.
