Maine Library Association
PLEASE NOTE THAT THIS EVENT HAS BEEN RESCHEDULED TO MARCH 28
Nonfiction doesn’t always mean fact, just as placing a title in a library collection doesn’t always mean it’s a representative view of the institution. Libraries have social responsibilities to provide their communities with access to the information they request and to provide them with trustworthy information, and we must do our best to balance these sometimes-conflicting principles.
This conversation will hold space for library workers to discuss neutrality, bias, and harm reduction in collection development. We encourage attendees to share the tools they use for collection development and discuss how they align with the ALA code of ethics, (specifically #9). We strive to learn from each other and hear the varied viewpoints and perspectives in our profession while highlighting the important tenets of intellectual freedom.
This conversation will be hosted by the MLA Intellectual Freedom Committee. All participants must agree to abide by the Chatham House Rule. It will not be recorded. We hope that you can join us!
The Coffee Chat Series is an MLA Membership benefit. Registration is open to all members, and the event Zoom link will be provided in your registration confirmation email.
